Prescription Courier Update: What’s Changing

Published: 14/08/25

There are important changes to the way prescription submissions are collected by Parcel Force and Royal Mail. Effective immediately, Royal Mail is transitioning Parcel Force operations into their own systems and processes.

What’s Changing?

  • New Technology in Use: All depots are now operating using Royal Mail’s handheld devices.

  • Scanning Process: Drivers will no longer scan prescription bags at the point of collection. The first scan will now occur when the items are received back at the depot or delivery office.

  • Collection Proof: Drivers will continue to show identification and sign the pharmacy’s collection sheet as proof of attendance. Most drivers will also present their own sheet, which pharmacies will be expected to sign.

  • Please remember to always make sure that a valid Parcel Force or Royal Mail ID is presented.

What’s Staying the Same?

  • Your collection schedule will remain unchanged.

  • Pre-labelled prescription bags can continue to be used as normal.

We continue to liaise with Parcel Force and Royal Mail to ensure that this changeover is as smooth as possible for you and your team and if there are any further changes we will inform you as and when we know more. We want to assure you that the continued collection and delivery of prescriptions in a secure and timely manner remains our priority. Please continue to monitor collections closely during this transition period. If you experience any issues with your prescription collections, please contact the Audit & Services Team or you can call us on 0131 467 7766.
