About the Butterfly Trust

Making a positive difference to people living with Cystic Fibrosis

Who They Are

Free, confidential support for Scotland's CF community

The Butterfly Trust was founded in 2002 to support the Cystic Fibrosis community in Scotland. Their aim is that everyone living with CF has access to the support they need to benefit from the best possible home care and quality of life in their community.

That means practical help and advocacy across housing, finances, welfare benefits, education, employment and independent living, alongside emotional support, befriending for children, mentoring for young adults, and help for carers and families.

A small staff team is supported by a trained volunteer force who provide face-to-face support in local communities, and every service is free of charge.

People with Cystic Fibrosis manage a demanding daily treatment regime, and community pharmacy teams are often among the healthcare professionals they see most. Knowing where to signpost patients and families for practical and emotional support can make a real difference.

How They Support People

Services available to anyone affected by Cystic Fibrosis in Scotland

  • Support and Advice

    Friendly staff available Monday to Friday by phone, plus trained volunteers offering face-to-face support in the community.

  • Benefits Help

    Around 20 years of expertise helping people navigate the benefits system and explain how CF affects them, so claims are decided fairly.

  • New Diagnosis

    Working alongside NHS Scotland clinical teams to ease practical pressures and offer a listening ear after a new diagnosis.

  • Children, Adults and Carers

    Befriending for children and young people, mentoring for young adults, and dedicated support for carers and families.
