Upcoming Parliamentary Drop-in Session
Published: 5th March 2026
Ahead of the 2026 Scottish Parliamentary elections, Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS) has identified four key areas that it believes political parties must prioritise with respect to community pharmacy services. Only by investing in these areas can our network of community pharmacies support NHS transformation and the delivery of a healthier Scotland.
Early intervention, trusted relationships and accessible care are key to improving patient outcomes, community pharmacy is uniquely placed to deliver on all three.
As part of our work engaging with all political parties, we have arranged a Parliamentary Drop-In session for MSPs and their teams on Thursday 19th March 2026 sponsored by Emma Harper MSP, specifically in relation to targeted screening for diabetes in Community Pharmacy.
NHS Scotland spends ~ £875 million (4.5% of the total budget) annually on diabetes care for almost 340,000 people. Over half of this is spent managing avoidable complications. Preventative measures are crucial to addressing this challenge, however they can only be deployed effectively if those most at risk can be identified accurately and engaged with.
With the right investment, Scotland’s 1200+ community pharmacies can contribute so much to prevention, and early detection of Diabetes, and we are looking forward to expanding on this with MSPs and their teams on the Thursday 19th March 2026.
