Adam Osprey: Policy & Development Pharmacist

After spending the first 7 years of my career across a number of community pharmacies in Scotland, I decided to apply for this role because I wanted to use my experience to help pharmacy teams make a difference to patients through the services they offer. I know first-hand that it can be tough out there but it’s also an immensely rewarding thing to be able to improve people’s quality of life when our and our teams’ collective knowledge and skills put to use properly.

In this role, I get to help review and develop national pharmacy services as well as enabling our local committees to innovate with their Health Board colleagues. I’m a passionate advocate of using plain English wherever possible, so my efforts are usually focussed on stripping things back to basics and making services as easy to understand (and then deliver) as possible. In the policy team we spend a lot of our time “managing stakeholders”, which is really just making sure that we are involved in any work that may have an impact on community pharmacy and ensuring we are involving anyone who may be affected by our work so that any new developments are delivered as smoothly as possible.

When I’m not at work I enjoy cooking and at any given time I will be eating, thinking about what/where I might eat next or both at the same time. Second only to this is travel and exploring the world, so food tourism is an area I’m keen to investigate further!
