Published: 8th October 2026

Today, I represented Community Pharmacy Scotland on BBC Scotland television and BBC Radio Scotland, discussing the availability of private flu vaccinations in community pharmacy and how people can prepare for winter.

BBC Radio Scotland Mornings - with Stephen Jardine - Available for 29 Days - Time: 33:48

BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast - Available for 29 Days -Time: 2:09:23

BBC Reporting Scotland - Available from the 9th October

The interviews highlighted the vital role community pharmacies play in helping people stay well during the winter months. We discussed current demand for private flu vaccinations, the supply challenges affecting parts of the market, and the importance of keeping the public informed about availability.

I also shared practical advice on winter preparedness, including ordering repeat medicines in good time, maintaining good hand hygiene, and seeking health related advice via NHS Pharmacy First Scotland.

These media appearances provided an important opportunity to showcase the expertise, accessibility and value of community pharmacy teams, and to reinforce the crucial contribution our network makes to supporting patients and reducing pressure on the wider NHS throughout winter.

A particular thank you to the members who took the time to share insights on private vaccine availability and local pressures ahead of today's interviews. Your feedback helped inform our preparation and ensured we could provide an accurate reflection of the challenges and experiences facing community pharmacy teams across Scotland.
