Core Services
Gluten Free Food Service
The only "treatment" for coeliac and Dermatitis Herpetiformis patients is to follow a strict gluten-free diet. Pharmacy teams can support people to do this providing advice and managing orders for food items on a monthly basis, and carrying out an annual health check to identify and address any care issues.
The Pharmacy Care Record (PCR) is used to support, record and schedule annual health checks.

How the Service Works
Registration, ordering and claims
Registration
Registering a patient
To register for this service, the patient's GP or dietitian service must complete a registration form which is taken to the pharmacy that the patient wishes to order their food products and have their health check completed at. Patients can only be registered with one pharmacy at a time, requiring a new registration form when moving between pharmacies.
Ordering
Points system and claims
Food is ordered using a points system, with each patient being assigned a total number of points that they can "spend" on gluten-free food products each month. The pharmacy team support the patient to understand the local Health Board gluten-free foods formulary and points system, ordering on their behalf and making service claims using the Universal Claim Framework (UCF) within their PMR system.
Remuneration
Payments for providing the Gluten Free Food Service
Every pharmacy that is signed up to provide the Gluten Foods Service (GFFS) to people referred by their GP or dietitian will receive a fixed payment of £100 per month. All contractors in the dispensing month concerned shall receive an activity payment from a fixed funding pot of around £500k.
