PGD + UCF FAQs

PGUF

Will the current additional Pharmacy First PGDs, continue?

Only UTI and Impetigo will be available under the new NHS Pharmacy First Service when it rolls out. Additional local PGDs will remain in place but may gradually move over into the new service. There will still need to be a separate claim form for the additional PGDs as they cannot be added to UCF until they become national.

What will be included in the national PGD for UTI – Trimethoprim or Nitrofurantoin or both?

There are two separate national PGDs available for the treatment of uncomplicated UTIs in women – one for Trimethoprim and one for Nitrofurantoin. Each Health Board will make a local decision on whether one or both are made available, and if both then which will be first line. Please refer to the latest version of the approved list for further information on this, and to your local Board for the PGDs.

Will the current additional Pharmacy First PGDs, e.g. Shingles continue?

Only UTI and Impetigo will be available under the new NHS Pharmacy First Service when it rolls out. Additional local PGDs will remain in place but may gradually move over into the new service.

Will the current additional Pharmacy First PGDs move to UCF?

Initially no. Only UTI and Impetigo will be available through UCF, but once additional PGDs are added to the new service these will become available on UCF.

Do Unscheduled Care prescriptions still need to be printed off via UCF?

Yes. Nothing will change with regards to the Unscheduled Care PGD.

Do I need to print of the UCF form, get it signed, and then submit or keep it? If I need to keep it, how long for?

The requirement to print UCF forms will be minimised in the new service.  Where you have to inform a GP practice of a supply the form should be sent or communicated to them.  There is no requirement for all consultations to be signed or for forms to be retained in the pharmcy.  We will work with colleagues in National Services Scotland to update the yellow UCF form advice matrix making clear any requirement to submit or send on form details.
